Harriers Class - Year 5
Welcome to Harriers Class!
Your teacher will very soon be filling this page with exciting class news, pictures of things we’ve done and more.
Do you have any ideas for this page? Why not let your Teacher know!
In Year 5 we will be having lots of exciting learning experiences, starting off by finding out about life in Britain during Anglo-Saxon times. This will include making our own replica Anglo-Saxon village and finding out about what happened when the Vikings arrived! Other learning experiences will be chosen with the children’s input and guided by their interests and questions.
We will continue to build on all the Maths covered in Year 4 and go on to new areas involving numbers up to a million. In English we will focus on developing our writing so that we can include more ambitious vocabulary and grammar and write for a wider range of purposes. Our reading lessons will involve whole class guided reading of various books, giving us the opportunity to look in depth at different genres of texts and styles of writing. It continues to be important for the children to read regularly at home, so please support your child with this and sign their reading record when appropriate. Weekly spelling tests will take place on Monday afternoons, and children will bring their spelling lists home to practise.
We have 2 PE lessons each week, which take place on Tuesday and Friday. It is essential that all children have a PE kit in school, including appropriate footwear. During the winter they can wear tracksuit bottoms instead of shorts if they prefer.
Ms Cooper teaches Harriers from Monday to Thursday, with Mrs Alldis taking the class on Fridays. Mrs James is our teaching assistant who is with Harriers every morning.
Once again our termly home learning grids will have a choice of activities and we expect children to complete at least 3 of them in whatever way they choose. Be creative!
