Ladybirds Class - Year R
Welcome to Ladybirds Class!
Dear Parents and Carers,
Following the recent news, school will be closed for indefinite period. It is really important for us to ensure that your child will still have access to education and to maintain the good progress that they have already started to make. For this reason, we are outlining some ways in which we hope we can help you to help them at home.
We will be using the Leo Lion Facebook page as an ‘online classroom’, where we will endeavour to broadcast a Facebook live event each day, linked to maths or phonics, following the sequence of lessons we would have taught in school anyway. The video will also be available after the lesson on Facebook.
We have included a resource pack which we may be referring to in those videos. These include:
- An exercise/work book with logins stuck on/inside the front cover
- A pencil
- Tens frames
- Numicon- please cut these out and keep them safe
- A timetable
- Letters and numbers sheet
- Phase 3 sound mat
- Practical Ideas booklet
- Phonics phase 2 and phase 3 activity sheets
We have made a sheet with a number of optional activities for the children to complete which they are more than welcome to record in the project book or for you to upload to Tapestry- our online evidence gathering tool and we will look at all submissions.
If your child chooses to record any learning in the project book, these will be looked at when we get back to school. Our ethos in Reception remains the same; we promote a highly play-based curriculum which is led by the children and we hope that this will continue at home. Please use Tapestry to upload any observations which you make of your children- any ‘Wow’ or significant moments would be great to see.
Please see below for a list of useful website links and apps for you to download if you wish. Fortunately at the minute, there are lots of companies offering free access and downloads during this period of isolation.
Lastly, we also include a timetable of our typical week in Reception to give you an idea of how you might want to structure your child’s day and how long we usually spend on an activity. Children rely on routine and structure and this should hopefully give them some normality. Obviously it is up to you how you would like to structure the day- maybe ask the children to help you design their day.
We wish you all the very best, we hope you all stay safe and well and we hope to see you very soon!
